The NSBA is supportive of the Downtown Event & Entertainment District because we want to see our downtown bustling with positive economic and entertainment activity. The model has proven to work in other markets and we are excited to see Saskatoon benefit in the same way. Ironically, during the last arena location debate in the 1980s, the NSBA was a strong supporter of the north-end location of the current SaskTel Centre, but we did so with the belief that it would be the impetus of further development and economic activity in that region. Unfortunately, that didn’t come to pass. But it’s for those same reasons – to foster further economic growth and development – that we believe that the Downtown Event & Entertainment District will be a tremendous asset for our city and region, serving as a magnet for other development opportunities and investment attraction. The location is right and the time is right for this project to move forward.
