Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre Upgrade & Facility Closure

Renovation work at the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre continues to progress steadily and remains on schedule. As of the end of July 2025, approximately 66% of construction is complete, and the project remains on track for substantial completion in spring 2026. The facility is expected to fully reopen to the public by September 1, 2026.
Current Progress Highlights:
50-Meter Pool Upgrades
Major structural rehabilitation of the main competition pool is nearing completion. The final concrete pour—covering the deep-end main drain area—is scheduled for August 15. Additional ongoing upgrades include:
- Installation of new piping, skimmers, grouting and waterproofing
- Preparation for thick-set tile finishes
- Painting and installation of the new HVAC ductwork
- Modifications to the existing HVAC masonry chase
- Completion of concrete repairs for the diving tower structure
Interior Enhancements – Change Rooms & Multipurpose Spaces
Interior renovations are advancing throughout the facility, including the newly reconfigured change rooms, administrative offices, fitness room and other key spaces.
Progress includes:
- Completed construction of concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls
- Completed installation of cement thick-set and waterproofing
- Ongoing drywall partition installation
- Ongoing ceramic tile installation for floors and walls
- Ongoing wall painting
- Continued upgrades to mechanical systems such as sprinklers, ductwork and piping
Mechanical & Electrical Systems – Basement & Mechanical Room
Mechanical and electrical infrastructure improvements are underway and progressing well. Current work includes:
- Installation of high-efficiency boilers
- New heating, ventilation and heat exchanger systems
- Enhanced support systems to improve overall performance and reliability
Building Envelope Improvements
Building envelope work is enhancing both energy efficiency and structural durability. Completed and ongoing efforts include:
- Replacement of the west flat roof
- Installation of rooftop heating/cooling (HVAC) units
- Completion of west façade metal cladding from roof level upward
- Installation of new parapet cladding and capping (ongoing)
- Full installation of the new solar panel system on the south inclined roof

What's Next:
Work will continue this summer on pool systems, mechanical installations and interior finishes. Planning for furnishings, signage and IT systems is also progressing to ensure the facility is fully prepared for reopening.

Upgrade & Facility Closure Project
Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre was built in 1975 and many of the components are nearing the end of their functional life.
The project is anticipated to include the following upgrades to the facility:
- Accessibility and inclusivity improvements to ensure the building and its features will be a welcoming space for the entire community.
- Upgrades to the 50-metre pool basin.
- Change room and washroom renovations to better serve customers and families.
- Water treatment and building mechanical system upgrades for improved efficiency.
- Flat roof upgrades including vapor barrier and insulation to increase energy efficiency and air quality.

Programming
The same programs and services will continue to be available at the other 5 Leisure Centres (Cosmo, Lakewood and Lawson Civic Centres, Saskatoon Field House and Shaw Centre) and where possible, programming opportunities have been expanded at the facilities.
