Point-in-Time Count
The Point-in-Time (PiT) Counts are a community-level measure of sheltered and unsheltered homelessness. It also provides a picture of homelessness across the country.
The information gathered will help to:
- identify populations that are over-represented among those experiencing homelessness;
- better understand the pathways into homelessness, allowing us to strengthen prevention services in key areas;
- enhance collaboration within the homelessness-serving sector and across other fields, such as health and corrections, to direct investments where they are most needed;
- gain public support in our collective efforts to reduce and ultimately end homelessness; and
- allocate resources to the areas of greatest need.
The City of Saskatoon, in partnership with the Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) the Reaching Home Community Entity in Saskatoon, and the Community-University Institute for Social Research (CUISR) at the University of Saskatchewan, along with community organizations and volunteers, participated in a Point-in-Time (PiT) Homelessness Count on October 8, 2024.
The 2024 count identified 1499 unhoused people in Saskatoon. The count includes individuals and families residing in shelters, transitional housing or unsheltered locations.
