Community Consultation
The City is committed to creating an Accessibility Plan that reflects the needs and experiences of all residents. Through a structured consultation process, we aim to gather valuable insights from the community to guide our efforts in building a barrier free city.
Objectives of the Consultation
• Identify and address barriers that prevent full participation in our community.
• Gather diverse perspectives to ensure the plan reflects the needs of all residents.
• Build a roadmap for a more inclusive and barrier free city.
Key Steps in the Consultation Process
Accessibility Advisory Committee Meetings
- Working with Andy Livingstone, an accessibility consultant, we will hold regular meetings to develop and refine consultation tools, including surveys and focus groups.
- Feedback from these meetings shapes the overall approach to the Accessibility Plan.
Public Engagement Activities
- Launch a survey to collect input from residents about accessibility barriers and solutions. (date – TBD)
- Host focus group sessions to gather in-depth feedback from diverse community members.
- Share a draft Accessibility Plan for public review and input.
City Employee Contributions
- Conduct interviews and surveys to understand workplace barriers.
- Work with all divisions and departments to develop strategic plans to remove identified barriers.
Final Review of the City’s Accessibility Plan
- After public engagement activities, a full draft report will be developed with City stakeholders that summarizes findings and next steps.
- The draft Accessibility Plan will be made public for a period of time to collect additional feedback.
- Finalize report will be developed and submitted to council for approval.
We value your input and encourage you to participate in surveys, focus groups, and public reviews to help shape our Accessibility Plan. In recognition of your support, the City will offer participation lotteries for prizes for those who complete the survey and honorariums for those who participate in our focus groups.
