Spend a summer as a Recreation Program Leader
Recreation Program leaders are hired to lead the Summer Play Program and Youth Centre programming and operate the rides at Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park. Employment length will vary depending on the location candidates are hired to work:
- Play Program & Youth Centres during July and August
- Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park from May until September
Requirements
These positions provide excellent work experience for anyone entering the fields of recreation, education or early childhood education. Applicants must have completed a minimum of Grade 10, be certified in Standard First Aid/CPR-C and have an acceptable current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search upon offer of employment.
Types of summer programming
Summer Play Program
The Summer Play Program is chance for children ages 2-12 to drop in for waterplay, sports, crafts, games and music planned by the recreation leaders. The Summer Play Program operates at spray pads and paddling pools around the city. A typical workday will include:
- Craft preparation and implementation (including theme weeks)
- Leading aquatic activities
- Filling and draining the paddling pool
- Organizing outdoor games and sports
Youth Centres
Youth Centres offer sports, games and music for youth ages 12 to 16. Program leaders, together with the participants, plan daily activities to met the unique needs of the local youth.
Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park
At Nutrien Playland, Recreation Program Leaders operate three star attractions that delight children and adults alike. The Ferris wheel carousel and Canpotex train attracts over 132,000 patrons every season. Leaders will host school groups, special event private rentals, and set-up for birthday party bookings.
