Open Data
The City of Saskatoon is committed to making data and information available to the public through our new Open Data website. Open Data is the City of Saskatoon's public platform for exploring and downloading open data, discovering and building apps, and engaging to solve important local issues.
What is Open Data?
Open Data is a platform where members of the public can easily access information about the City, its services and administration. The data and information shared on Open Data is free to use, re-use and redistribute without any legal, technological or social restriction.
Types of Data – Datasets and Applications
The City collects and provides datasets on services such as transit and procurement (purchasing). The datasets are updated regularly and can be filtered to find specific information.
The Open Data site also provides mapping applications where users can view maps of historic places in Saskatoon, public art collections and road restrictions or report potholes and traffic issues.
Data collection provides evidence-based information that can help City administration and citizens make informed decisions, develop policies and procedures and identify opportunities to improve City services and products. Making this information readily available and accessible also creates trust and credibility between the City of Saskatoon and the citizens we serve.
Who Uses Open Data?
Open Data is typically used by government, non-profit organizations, developers, businesses, researchers, entrepreneurs and media but any citizen or member of the general public can use it.
Transition to New Open Data Platform
The City’s former Open Data website will soon no longer be supported by Microsoft and on August 26, 2024 the City will cease using it in favour of the new Open Data website. The new City of Saskatoon Open Data website is more user friendly with additional applications and maps.
Not at all data on the old platform has been moved over to the new website. Data was selected to be moved over to the new platform if it had been updated in the last 4 years or if there was demonstrated usage of that data.
