Landscaping Requirements
The City's Zoning Bylaw No. 8770 establishes landscaping regulations for commercial, institutional, industrial, mixed-use and higher density residential development. Section 7 of the Zoning Bylaw includes general regulations for all landscape development, as well as requirements specific to each zoning district, and in some cases for specific uses. It is important to note that the Zoning Bylaw does not regulate landscaping for one-unit, two-unit and semi-detached dwellings.
The Planning and Development Department has also developed a Landscape Guidelines booklet. This valuable resource contains the technical information required to meet the objectives and requirements of the Zoning Bylaw, and also provides options and ideas for your landscape development.
Some items included in the Landscape Guidelines booklet include:
- A list of salt and drought tolerant tree and shrub species suitable for our climate;
- Screening guidelines;
- Landscape design ideas; and
- How to prepare a landscaping plan.
