City Employee Benefit Programs
The City of Saskatoon offers a wide range of benefits. These benefits support the health, well-being and financial security of our employees.

Benefits Package
Health Care
The City’s health plans are with Saskatchewan Blue Cross. They provide eligible employees with benefits including:
- prescriptions drugs,
- vision-care expenses,
- massage and chiropractor services,
- emergency medical expenses while traveling outside of Canada, and
- dental care expenses.
Income Protection
The City provides sick leave and disability programs. They offer income protection to eligible employees in the event of illness or injury. In the unfortunate event of death, we offer life and accident insurance benefits.
Retirement Savings
The City’s pension plans help our employees build financial security in retirement. Defined Benefit and Target Benefit pension plans offer retirement benefits to permanent employees. The Defined Contribution pension plan offers retirement benefits to seasonal and casual employees.

Fire Dept. Superannuation Bylaw (for employee with service before *January 1, 2016)
*Members of the Saskatoon Police Association (SCPA) and Saskatoon Professional Firefighters Association (IAFF 80) with service on or after January 1, 2016 enroll in:
- the Saskatoon Police Pension Plan, or
- the Saskatoon Firefighter’s Pension Plan.

A Board of Trustees administers each pension plan. The Trustees are individuals appointed by City Council and employee representatives. There is one independent member on each Board. The Boards establish investment objectives and policies for the pension funds. They track performance and funding requirements.
Work/Life Balance Support
Employees have personal interests. They have families and loved ones to care for. In recognition of the need for employees to maintain a work/life balance, the City offers:
- twelve statutory holidays,
- annual vacation leave,
- earned days off or scheduled days off,
- pressing necessity days,
- bereavement and compassionate leave, and
- personal leave.

Health & Wellness Resources
The health of our employees is an important part of a productive work environment. The City supports this through the following programs:
- Employee Wellness Subsidization for leisure cards,
- Employee Bulk Tickets for Indoor Leisure Centres,
- Exercise Equipment Purchase Plan,
- Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP), and
- ECO Pass, discounted bus passes.
Career Growth and Development
To support your career growth, the City partners with consultants to offer a variety of training and development courses.
Also, eligible employees have access to:
