Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo
The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo offers all generations the opportunity to explore, discover and learn about the diverse, yet integrated, aspects of plants, animals and prairie history.
Established as the Sutherland Forest Nursery Station in 1913, the site researched and produced trees adapted for use in the Prairie climate. For over 50 years, millions of seedlings were grown and shipped to farms throughout the Prairie Provinces, helping to ensure the success of prairie farming by providing protection from harsh weather and beautification of the landscape.
The Nursery Station closed in 1965 and was purchased by the City of Saskatoon and re-opened in 1966 as the Forestry Farm Park. In 1972, the City completed a renovation to expand the facility to include an animal park.
Today, the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo is a National Historic Site boasting restored heritage buildings, carefully-crafted garden spaces and Saskatchewan’s only CAZA accredited zoo.
