Tree Species Selection - Established Neighbourhoods

Let's grow together and help enrich Saskatoon's urban forest. Homeowners and businesses can request the City plant a tree free of charge in the boulevard(s) adjacent to their property.

The table below lists the tree species available for established neighbourhoods. Homeowners and businesses may list their three choices of tree species on the online form. Requests are filled subject to availability and suitability to the site.


American Elm High-headed, spreading tree with unique umbrella shape Ideal for street boulevards and providing shade Height: 18 to 24 metres Spread: 12 to 21 metres	Silver Maple Attractive oval-shaped tree Deeply lobed leaves are light green on top and silvery beneath Leaves turn brilliant yellow in the fall Fast growing Height: 16 to 20 m Spread: 7 to 10 m	American Basswood Attractive large shade tree Striking dark green, heart-shaped leaves are large and broad Leaves turn vivid yellow in fall Fragrant flowers in late June Height: 15 metres Spread: 8 metres

Manitoba Maple (Boxelder) Very hardy and able to withstand difficult urban conditions Leaves are light green on top and greyish green on the bottom that turn yellow in fall Bark is dark brown and furrowed Height: 12 to 15 metres Spread: 12 to 15 metres	Bur Oak Attractive, long-lived shade tree that is ideal for our prairie environment Interesting corky bark Lobed green leaves that turn an antique yellow in fall Height: 15 to 20 metres Spread: 10 metres	Little Leaf Linden Fast growing with pyramidal form Leaves are heart-shaped leathery and dark green Produces fragrant pale yellow pendulous flowers in late June or early July Height: 12 m Spread: 10 m
