Forestry Farm & Park

The Sutherland Forest Nursery Station played a vital role in the settlement and development of the Prairies from 1913 to 1966.  Shipping 147 million trees over a span of 50 years, the nursery supplied the northern part of the Prairie Provinces with an abundance of caragana, ash, maple, elm and willow.  When the nursery was closed, a portion of the site was reopened as the Forestry Farm Park by the City of Saskatoon in 1966.  Designated as a National Historic Site, the Forestry Farm continues to strengthen the roots of our community while providing an awe-inspiring landscape for the Park and Zoo.

Pets of any kind are not permitted at the Forestry Farm Park. Balloons are not permitted in the park or zoo.

McDonald's Natural Place to Play Playground

Climb a gigantic boulder, scout through a periscope or bump down the slide of rollers. This custom built nature-themed accessible playground is a fun place to play for the young and the young at heart!

The playground, located across from the Superintendent’s Residence in the Forestry Farm Park, incorporates animal, insect and bird elements and is accessible, providing an opportunity for children with disabilities to fully enjoy play opportunities while they visit the facility.

Forestry Farm Park

Challenge your friends to a cricket match, cast a line or find your Zen in the gardens.  The expansive grounds of the Forestry Farm Park have a proud tradition of fostering old-fashioned values like connecting with loved ones and appreciating the nature around us.

Secret Gardens

Take sanctuary from the pressures of everyday life in the Robin Smith Meditation Garden, and the Heritage Rose Garden. The hard work and creativity of the Saskatchewan Perennial Society was poured into each of these gardens and the results are spectacular!

Picnics & BBQs

Stake out a picnic table and grill up your lunch at the many barbecue picnic sites throughout the Park.

Room to Run & Play

Host a friendly game of baseball or cricket at one of the sports fields, or take the kids to play at the McDonald's Natural Place to Play Playground.

Forestry Farm House

Set amidst the sweeping trees of the Forestry Farm Park, the Superintendent's Residence (Forestry Farm House) was built in 1913.  In its heyday, the Sutherland Forest Nursery Station distributed 147 million trees to prairie farmers, playing a significant role in early settlement. The Superintendent's Residence stands as a grand reminder of our heritage. Fully-restored by the Friends of the Forestry Farm House, it is the perfect location for retreats, workshops or meetings. 

Artists in Place: The Bunkhouse Project

Fishing Pond

Rainbow trout are the catch of the day at the Forestry Farm Park Fishing Pond! The quiet setting of the pond is a great place to unwind and try your hand at angling. Catch and release is encouraged and there is a two fish per-person, per-day limit. Bring your own equipment and bait (no corn please).

Purchase your daily fishing permit at the Forestry Farm Park gate (right when you enter the park) or at the Zoo Admission gate. A Saskatchewan fishing license is not required.
