Canada Lynx
Risks: Risks to Canada lynx include habitat destruction due to deforestation, fires, trapping and climate change.
Diet: Their diet consists of snowshoe hare, ducks, grouse, moles, squirrels and young ungulates.
Height: 73 to 107 cm in length and stands 48 to 56 cm tall at the shoulder.
Weight: Males weigh 6 to 17 kg and females weigh 5 to 12 kg.
Lifespan: The lifespan of a Canada lynx is 10 to 14 years.
Fun Facts
- The lynx's large paws support it like snowshoes when walking over deep snow.
- Canada lynx are outstanding climbers and often jump from trees to ambush snowshoe hares.
- Canada lynx rely on healthy snowshoe hare populations for survival. When the snowshoe hare population decreases so does the Canada Lynx population.

Nylak is here as part of the SSP program. He is considered highly genetically valuable and will eventually be paired up with a female as part of the Species Survival Plan Program for Canada Lynx.
