The intersection at Ruth Street and Cumberland Avenue will be closed starting this morning for unplanned water main repairs. Detours will be in place guiding motorists around the work zone. The timeline to complete this work will be updated later today.                         

Saskatoon Transit may be affected by these detours. Transit service alerts and real-time bus information are available on third-party apps like Transit and Google Maps Transit on desktop.

The City of Saskatoon is looking for a community member to join the Active Transportation Advisory Group (ATAG). This group provides valuable input on policies, programs and initiatives to enhance cycling, walking and other active transportation options in our community. 

ATAG is looking for someone who uses Saskatoon Transit regularly and is passionate about cycling and pedestrian initiatives and infrastructure. 

By creating safe active-transportation networks, we can encourage more residents to choose walking or cycling as their preferred way to get around. ATAG plays a key role in connecting community groups, organizations, residents and the City to support the Active Transportation Plan.

June is Electricity Month, and Saskatoon Light & Power is celebrating electrical workers the week of June 24-28. 

Electrical Workers and support staff work tirelessly, day or night to ensure optimal performance of our electrical infrastructure. Rain or shine, they brave the elements to keep Saskatoon homes and businesses powered up and running smoothly.

This is our chance to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Here's how you can get involved:

1. Say Thank You: Whether you see them working in your neighborhood or encounter them elsewhere, take a moment to express your gratitude. A simple "thank you" can go a long way in brightening their day.
2. Spread Positivity: Use your social media platforms to share stories of appreciation for electrical workers. Let's flood the internet with messages of thanks and recognition for their vital contributions.
3. Support Safety Measures: Remember, safety is paramount for electrical workers. Help keep them safe by reporting any hazards or concerns you notice in your area.
4. Educate Others: Take this opportunity to educate your friends, family, and neighbors about the importance of electrical safety and the hard work of electrical workers in our community.

The City of Saskatoon (City) is prepared for the potential impact of a severe summer storm this afternoon and has activated the Emergency Operations Centre. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Tornado Watch for Saskatoon. A watch means atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.

ECCC has stated damage to infrastructure and personal property is possible in severe storms. The potential for heavy rain can lead to localized flooding on roads and in intersections. Saskatoon Police Service (SPS), Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) and all City departments are monitoring conditions and are ready to respond if necessary. Saskatoon Light and Power (SL&P) crews are on standby as well. Saskatoon Transit may be impacted during summer storms - service alerts and real-time bus information are available on third-party apps like Transit and Google Maps Transit on desktop.

The Saskatoon Landfill, Saskatoon Forestry Farm & Zoo and other City facilities may close if severe weather does occur. Visit saskatoon.ca/servicealerts for the most up-to-date impacts to City facilities and services. 

The City is advising residents to take immediate steps to ensure their safety and to stay informed. Monitor the forecast, local news stations, saskatoon.ca and social media for updates. Learn about emergency preparedness and sign up to receive emergency alerts at saskatoon.ca/notifynow. notifynow will send out a message to subscribers in the event of impending or escalating safety concerns.
