Reminder: Permits Required for Park Access

Spring is a busy time of year for projects in the yard, garden, and around the home. Contractors and homeowners with a property adjacent to a park may wish to use the park as an access point for deliveries, equipment and/or vehicles related to their projects.

The City would like to remind contractors and homeowners about the importance of gaining approval prior to using the park space, park linkage, greenspace or bufferstrips as an access point for deliveries, equipment and/or vehicles to ensure the safety and enjoyment of these spaces for everyone.

To obtain a permit, contractors and homeowners are required to:

Complete the Request Access to a Park online form at saskatoon.ca/parkaccess;
Complete the Request City Utility Line Locate online form at Locating Underground Utilities; or
Call Parks Customer Service at 306-975-3300.

Permit applications should be submitted at least one week prior to the date required.

Once the permit has been issued, the permit holder is responsible for:

Repairing any damage to City property at the homeowner's/contractor’s expense.
Removing all litter/debris after the project is complete.
Expenses incurred by the City to repair damage.
Adhering to any restrictions set forth in the approval process, including limitations for vehicle access when the turf is wet.
Accepting liability for any injury to the public, and for damages to public property.
Contacting the Parks Division after the work is complete for an inspection and to close the permit.

Test of notifynow alert planned for Thursday, May 16

Saskatoon Emergency Management Operations (EMO) will conduct a scheduled notifynow test on Thursday, May 16, 2024, after 11:30 a.m. The message will specifically indicate that it is a test and does not require any action from the public.

The City of Saskatoon’s public safety alert program, notifynow, is used to notify the public in real-time of a safety situation where they need to take action. Alerts are issued when there is an impending, escalating, or occurring emergency in the city and immediate action needs to be taken. The system uses listed phone numbers and associated addresses from the public White Pages to send out alerts. Residents can also sign up to notifynow to receive a message via their preferred communication method.

Upon registration, subscribers can opt to receive alerts by:

SMS text message
Voice call to a landline
Voice call to a cell phone
Email

Subscribers can choose any, or all, of these communication methods.

Residents are strongly encouraged to create an account and provide accurate contact information to successfully receive messages. It is important for residents to review and update their notifynow profiles regularly to make sure phone numbers and addresses are current.

Testing of the notifynow system provides EMO the opportunity to:

Raise public awareness about the system so that residents of Saskatoon can be equipped and ready for potential emergencies
Confirm the notifynow system performs effectively
Practice sending alerts to the public and assess public safety alert procedures

If subscribers notice the notifynow alert is not performing as expected, residents are encouraged to contact EMO immediately with details at emo@saskatoon.ca.

EMO regularly conducts two annual test alerts: one occurring in the spring and the other closer to the end of the year.
