February school break makes for a wonderful time to enjoy winter activities and create family memories. Whether you’re planning a staycation with your kids or looking to try new activities, the City has options for you.

Family Day Skate Event
Monday, February 21, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Cosmo Arena and Civic Centre (3130 Laurier Drive)

Everyone welcome! Bring your skates and safety gear and come out for an afternoon of winter fun at the free Family Day skate event. Skating will take place at the Cosmo Arena, while non-skating activities will be offered both indoors and outdoors at Cosmo Civic Centre. Please dress warmly. Leisure Centres and Indoor Rinks
If you’re looking for additional activities to try, check out one of the six Leisure Centres where you can enjoy swimming, waterslides, court sports, open gym times and more. If you’re looking to hit the ice, try one of the City’s indoor rinks for public skating, as well as Parent and Tot skating. The City of Saskatoon will have a number of adjusted civic services and hours of operation on Family Day, as follows:

CITY HALL

• All Administrative Offices are closed on February 21. City Hall will reopen Tuesday, February 22, 2021, at 8:00 a.m.

REMAI MODERN

• Remai Modern is open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for Rawlco Radio Free Admission Day. Register for your free, timed ticket at remaimodern.org.

SASKATOON PUBLIC LIBRARY

• All locations will be closed on February 21

WASTE COLLECTIONS

• Garbage (Black Cart) – Collections as scheduled
• Recycling (Blue Cart) – Collections as scheduled
• Organics (Subscription Green Cart) – Collections as scheduled

LANDFILL

• The Landfill will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Cash transactions are accepted, although Credit and Debit are recommended.

SASKATOON TRANSIT

• Fixed route, Access Transit and the Transit Customer Service Centre will operate holiday hours on Monday, February 21.
• On-Demand Transit will not be available on Monday, February 21.  

PAY PARKING

• Parking payment is not required on Family Day, February 21.
• Motorists are reminded that all other parking requirements remain in effect, including parking time limits.

MUNICIPAL IMPOUND LOT 

• Vehicles will not be released to the public on Family Day, February 21.

SASKATOON FORESTRY FARM PARK & ZOO HOURS

Hours of Operation:

• ACT Arena: Public Skating - 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Cosmo Arena:  Free Family Day Skate event from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Everyone welcome.

With only a couple of neighbourhoods in progress, the neighbourhood rut shaving is nearly complete. City and contractor crews are returning to the residential streets that were skipped during the first round in their area due to heavy on-street parking. These streets are expected to be finished by the end of the weekend. Back lane ruts are also being addressed starting this week. Find more information at saskatoon.ca/snow. 

Skipped residential streets 

Individual streets that were too narrow for graders to enter due to parked vehicles will have No Parking signs posted along the street, the day prior. This work will occur during the daytime only when fewer people will be at home with their vehicle, and are less likely to need to plug their vehicle because temperatures are milder. If a vehicle remains on the street that is scheduled for rut shaving, it may be towed to a nearby street. 

Back lane ruts 

City grader teams have started levelling work in severely rutted back lanes during daytime hours. Once contractor crews finish up rut shaving through neighbourhoods and address the skipped streets over the weekend, more resources will be added to back lane levelling.  

Priority street snow removal 

Snow removal on priority streets started back up last night and will continue each night. As this work moves into priority 2 and 3 streets, No Parking signs will be posted so that equipment can haul out the snow. Once all rut shaving is completed, additional resources will be moved to snow removal on priority streets.
