Saskatoon Appeal Board: new structure to provide improved governance and operation
The City of Saskatoon has merged seven of its appeal boards into one, creating the new Saskatoon Appeal Board. This change follows updated Terms of Reference, changes to mandate and composition, new Bylaw amendments, and public engagement feedback and is in accordance with common practice in other municipalities. The new board, approved by City Council in September 2023, became active effective January 1, 2025.
Combined Appeal Boards:
- Property Maintenance Appeal Board
- Saskatoon Private Swimming Pools Appeal Board
- Environmental Management Appeal Board
- Fire Appeal Board
- Saskatoon License Appeal Board
- Access Transit Appeal Board
- City Mortgage Appeal Board
The Saskatoon Appeal Board will handle appeals related to City decisions on permits, licenses, Orders to Remedy, Access Transit access, and City mortgage forgiveness. Hearings are scheduled for two afternoons per month, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The board's membership consists of seven City Council appointed members, with panels consisting of at least three members.
The Development Appeals Board and the Board of Revision remain unchanged and will continue to operate independently.
