Additional weekend Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Days added in October
The City of Saskatoon is excited to announce the success of our new weekly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off program. Since its launch in June, we've seen an incredible response, with over 1,000 visits from residents committed to properly disposing of hazardous materials.
HHW is accepted every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Material Recovery Centre (MRC), located at 42 Valley Road.
As a reminder, this program is seasonal and the last drop-off day of the year will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
For added convenience, the City is adding two special weekend drop-off days: Sunday, October 6, and Sunday, October 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the MRC.
The HHW collection program is designed to make it easier for residents to dispose of items that should not be thrown in regular garbage or recycling bins due to their potential harm to the environment and public health. Accepted items include aerosols, automotive fluids, cleaners, cylinders, light bulbs, yard chemicals, and more. Complete lists of acceptable and unacceptable items are available at saskatoon.ca/hazardouswaste.
The City encourages residents to take advantage of this free service to ensure these materials are handled in an environmentally responsible manner.
Reminders:
- The program is open to residents with household products only – no commercial loads will be accepted.
- Containers used for transporting HHW may not be returned to participants and those used for transporting gasoline will NOT be returned.
- Please ensure all containers are safely sealed and contents are clearly marked.
- Batteries are one of the most commonly dropped off items at HHW drop-off days. As a note, they are accepted DAILY for free at Sort & Go at the MRC.
- To avoid potentially long line-ups and wait times, ask the Waste Wizard at saskatoon.ca/wastewizard to find other means of recycling and safe disposal.
- There are no public washrooms available at the Material Recovery Centre.
Thank you for helping us put waste in the right place!
