Small fire in the 1300 Block of Avenue C North
May 28, 2022 - 11:25 am
On May 28, 2022 at 10:08 a.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) received a call of an extinguished fire that involved a garage. One fire engine responded to assess the scene. It was confirmed that the fire was very small and extinguished. Fire crews believe the incident happened during the early morning hours. A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene as evidence was present of the fire being suspicious.
Fire Investigator has determined an attempt had been made to light the garage on fire but its exterior cladding is non-combustible. The stucco exterior did not support fire growth and there was no other combustible material in its path to burn. Once the "molotov cocktail" which is constructed using a container and flammable liquid lit on fire had burnt down, the fire went out. Damage is $100 due to soot staining.
If anyone has information about this attempted fire, please call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300.
Alarm Bells ringing in the 200 Block Avenue K South
May 28, 2022 - 4:45 am
On May 28, 2022 at 3:19 a.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) received a call from an alarm monitoring company. The report was for a signal to the alarm company of a fire alarm activated in the 200 Block of Avenue K South. Three fire engines and a ladder truck responded to the call. On arrival, the first arriving fire crew reported a four storey building with no signs or indication of fire from the exterior. Entry was made into the building and all floors were searched and a pulled pull station in the hallway of the 2nd floor was located. This was a false alarm and a person had intentionally pulled the pull station. This person was located and the Saskatoon Police Service handled the person's misuse of the fire alarm system. Fire crews reset the fire alarm and ensured the residents had their alert system ready to warn them. SFD firefighters returned to station ready for the next call for service.
Misuse of the fire protection systems is an offense and person(s) may be charged for tampering with these vital and life saving systems.
Incident 22-07767, 300 Block of 108th Street West: fire crews remain on scene at this time, extinguishing flare ups and checking for hot spots.
