Confirmed Structure Fire - 1827 Avenue D North
October 8, 2019 - 9:12 am
At approximately 8:27 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a duplex on fire at 1827 Avenue D North.
Three fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were immediately dispatched for response.
Upon arrival of the first responding fire crew, heavy smoke was observed exiting the lower level of the duplex. Fire crews immediately softened the fire from the exterior before making entry to the fire suite to continue extinguishment. Firefighters shut off the gas to the house, while fire dispatchers requested utility technicians to shut off remaining utilities. Upon entry, it was determined that the reported duplex was actually a fourplex; fire crews performed searches of each of the four suites, finding no remaining occupants or pets inside.
Fire crews have established ventilation and are using electric fans to clear the fourplex of remaining smoke and carbon monoxide.
The fire is believed to be suspicious in nature; however, a fire investigator is working to confirm a cause. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
The Saskatoon Police Service has traffic restrictions in place and members of the public are being asked to avoid the area.

Collision on 8th Street ends in rollover
October 1, 2019 - 6:00 pm
Just before Five O'clock this afternoon, Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a two vehicle MVC on 8th Street at Circle Drive. Two Engines, one Rescue Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched.
On arrival, crews found two passenger vehicles had collided at the intersection, causing one of them to rollover onto its roof. Fire paramedics quickly determined there was only one patient remaining in the rolled vehicle, unable to self extricate. The other occupant and the driver of the second vehicle were accounted for and uninjured.
Fire fighters stabilized and de-energized the rolled van then used hydraulic tools to access and extricate the occupant. The process was completed in a matter of minutes.
One person was being transported to hospital with minor injuries. The two other persons involved were uninjured.
Fire crews cleaned up debris and any leaking fluids.
The intersection is temporarily partially obstructing traffic flow.
