House fire in Riversdale area
October 19, 2019 - 9:13 pm
At 19:27 this evening, Saskatoon Fire Department received a report of a structure on fire at the 600 block of Avenue H South. Three Engines, one Rescue Unit, one Aerial Company, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched to respond.
The first Engine was on scene in less than four minutes. The rear exterior of the house was engulfed in flames. The crew immediately laid a hose line and attacked the fire, successfully containing it and extinguishing it completely before it extended inside the home. A second crew of Firefighters completed a primary search inside for any occupants. The structure was veified to be a vacant property.
While crews controlled the fire, an overhead power line had burned through and was arcing as it made its way through tree branches to the ground. The on scene Safety Officer ensured a safe work area around the live power line was established. The natural gas line supplying the residence was also damaged from the flames. Sask Energy and Sask Power were notified and both agencies responded to the scene.
A small amount of overhaul work had to be done to ensure there was not any extension from the fire into the attic through the eaves. Damage sustained from the fire was minimal due to a fast attack and extinguishment by Fire crews.
