Environmental Grant

Funding is available to non-profit organizations implementing initiatives that support the City of Saskatoon's strategic goal of Environmental Leadership. Activities must meet a demonstrated community need that is supported by the City and relate to one or more of the following categories:
- protection and enhancement of Saskatoon’s green network;
- the green network is Saskatoon’s collection of green infrastructure including natural areas, wetlands, green spaces (such as parks and gardens), trees, urban agriculture, and built features like green roofs.

conservation of natural resources;

conservation and protection of our water resources;

improve energy efficiency and reduce water use in buildings, operations, and activities (e.g., renovations to existing facilities);

reduction of waste going to landfills;

active transportation;
-
environmental communications, research and education that support the City’s environmental goals.

2024 Grant Recipients
Congratulations to the successful applicants of the 2024 Environmental Grant Program:
First Nations University of Saskatchewan: ($10,000) – Create a SIIT Medicinal and Traditional Garden, led by Elders, aims to enhance natural green spaces, promote conservation efforts, and create cross-cultural learning opportunities for visitors
Saskatoon Cycles: ($5,000) – Bike Valet that provides safe, secure, and cost-free parking for bicycles at large festivals and other major community events.
SOS Trees Coalition: ($5,000) – This project includes neighborhood planting, volunteers planting, watering & maintaining a naturalized planting of native trees & shrubs and establishment of a volunteer group of tree stewards.
Native Plant Society of Saskatchewan ($2,486) – Project includes supporting the return of native plants by hosting a well-publicized Pollinator Celebration and Native Plant Market and participating in other public events.
Saskatoon Folkfest ($2,000) – This project will reduce the paper waste generated by the annual festival by switching from current single use to reusable signage made from durable materials.
Riversdale Community Association ($750)– To provide a safe place for children to lock up their bikes and .
25th Street Theatre: ($2,000) – Project will provide Fringe Festivalgoers with a re-usable, chilled water station to reduce water bottle waste and keep the public safe and hydrated.
Nuit Blanche Saskatoon: ($2,000) – Host a free, all-ages, nighttime art and culture festival in Saskatoon’s Broadway and Downtown neighborhoods. Programming will include eco-art submitted by elementary and high school students.
Mind Your Plastic ($1,000)– A free program for teachers to help teach youth about plastic pollution providing bags and gloves to the students who conduct a cleanup.
Wild Sky Adventure Learning ($3,500)– Applied for funding for affordable spaces on outdoor summer camps for children ages 3-12 years. The camps support child-led learning; active transportation and sustainability.
Saskatoon Zoo Society: ($6,000) – Will purchase and install bike racks at the Zoo. Additionally, will install water bottle filling stations to address the environmental concerns associated with plastic.
Nature Saskatchewan ($5,264)– The Get Outside! Kids Club will facilitate ecological, sustainability and stewardship learning opportunities at a different naturalized park or greenspace within the City of Saskatoon.
Tykes and Tots Early Learning Centre ($3,000)– Educating young environmental champions: Outdoor Learning Materials/Equipment materials for Forest School in Saskatoon including outdoor nature stations, rain barrels, library boxes and garden boxes.
Riversdale Badminton and Tennis Club ($3,000)– This project will purchase water-efficient toilets and a water fountain fitted with a water bottle dispenser to limit water waste and promote use of reusable water bottles
Bridge City Bicycle Coop ($10,000) – The project aims to increase the diversion of bicycles from the Material Recovery Centre to be reused by the Saskatoon community at no cost.
