On May 3, 2021, The Willows Traffic Plan was presented to the Standing Policy Committee for Transportation. The plan includes a number of traffic calming devices and signage to improve conditions in the neighbourhood. The recommended traffic calming devices will be installed temporarily. The devices will be reviewed and monitored. Devices that are performing effectively will be installed permanently as funding becomes available. Traffic calming devices that are not performing as intended or have created operational issues will be removed. ​​

In the past, neighbourhood transportation issues were addressed on a less effective case-by-case basis. The City of Saskatoon started Neighbourhood Traffic Reviews so that traffic engineers had the opportunity to consider the traffic patterns of a neighbourhood holistically.

This is the City of Saskatoon’s Engage page for the 2020 Neighbourhood Traffic Review in The Willows area. This page is for residents of these neighbourhoods inclusively.

The Neighbourhood Traffic Review process works like this:

1. The City gathers input from residents regarding transportation concerns on local and collector streets (scope excludes main arterials);
2. City transportation engineers investigate the issues identified by residents, including gathering traffic counts and observing traffic behaviours;
3. A comprehensive traffic plan is developed to address concerns;
4. The traffic plan is shared at a public meeting and on this Engage page;
5. The traffic plan is adopted and the City proceeds to implement the measures identified within the plan (subject to budgetary approvals):
6. Signage may be installed as early as the spring or summer after the report is finalized (pedestrian crosswalks, no parking, stop and yield, speed signs);
7. Traffic calming measures may be temporarily installed as early as the spring or summer after the report is finalized, until proven effective. If proven effective, the measures will be installed permanently when funding is available;
8. Sidewalks or any other permanent measures may be installed when funding is available.
