The City of Saskatoon is reviewing 2nd Avenue North to improve it, especially around the future library. The project aims to design 2nd Avenue North to improve safety for people walking, cycling and driving.

Project Location

This project focuses on 2nd Avenue North between 23rd Street East and 25th Street East. A map of the study area is provided below.

What is the project about?

The City of Saskatoon aims to improve the design of 2nd Avenue North for people, walking, cycling and driving around the future library. 

Why are we doing this?

The City Centre Plan identifies 2nd Avenue North between Spadina Crescent and 26th Street East as downtown’s primary north-south pedestrian corridor and it is considered a “Pedestrian Priority Street”. The proposed redevelopment of the roadway adjacent to the library will complement the pedestrian friendly street design on 2nd Avenue North corridor between Spadina Crescent and 23rd Street East.

Final project outcome

This project is informed by our design teams’ technical evaluation of options, City standards and policies and community feedback. Our design team will evaluate all options and narrow them down to one preferred option. The preferred option will aim to provide accessible on-street parking, a loading zone, public on-street parking and an accessible and welcoming public realm to interface with the new library.
