Visible Smoke - St. Paul's Hospital
At approximately 9:34 a.m. on June 07, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a report of visible smoke in a hallway at St. Paul’s Hospital, located in the 1700 block of 20th Street West. Four fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, and one battalion chief were dispatched to the scene.
The first fire engine arrived on scene in less than four minutes with firefighters immediately making entry to search for the cause of the smoke. Within minutes, fire crews determined a large transformer to have malfunctioned on the exterior of the hospital causing smoke to enter a small section of the hallway. A momentary power outage is reported to have occurred; however, back-up generators restored and maintained power to the building until a more permanent resolution of the issue was made. Utility technicians from the City of Saskatoon responded to the scene and firefighters remained on scene until the high voltage transformer was deemed safe. No injuries occurred as a result of this incident.
Upon conclusion of their work on scene, firefighters returned to their stations to continue serving Saskatoon.
