At approximately 12:56 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a mattress on fire in an upstairs bedroom of a residential house located at 130 Avenue U South.
Three Fire Engines, one Heavy Rescue Unit, one Aerial Ladder Truck, one Fire Investigation Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response.
Upon arrival, all occupants had self-evacuated from the residence with no reported injuries or complications. Utility technicians were requested to shut off services to the house, creating a safer work environment for fire crews.
Smoke was observed exiting a second storey window as an attack group made entry into the house; a mattress located in an upper level bedroom was quickly located, removed, and extinguished. Fire crews performed searches of each level in the house, finding no remaining occupants, pets, or extension of the fire.
Fire Investigators are on scene working to determine a cause. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
