Two structure fires overnight
The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to two fires overnight. The first was report at midnight indicated a garage on fire at the 1600 block Ave C North. Dispatched to the scene were three engines, one ladder, one rescue, one battalion chief and one fire investigator. First arriving firefighters found a garage fully involved in fire. There has yet to be a cause determined and remains under investigation. Fire damage is estimated at $40,000.
The second fire was called in to Saskatoon Fire Department via 911 at 2:20 a.m. reporting smoke coming from a house in the 800 block of Ave M South. Dispatched to the scene were three engines, one ladder, one rescue, one battalion chief and one fire investigator. The first arriving officer reported flames showing on the south side of a house. Fire crews advanced hose lines to direct water onto exposed flames. Upon extinguishment, a fire investigation determined the fire was caused by an overheated air-compressor that had been running continuously causing it to overheat and ignite nearby combustible materials. Damage is estimated to be $100,000.
