Cooking fire - 200 block of Avenue T North
At 7:27 p.m. on December 8, the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) received a report of a grease fire on the 200 block of Avenue T North. One engine and one battalion chief were dispatched.
Upon arriving, the occupant had smothered the grease fire with a wet blanket. The stove, range hood and cupboards sustained significant damage. The fire crew confirmed there were no signs of heat or smoke, and the fire was completely extinguished. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
SFD’s Fire Investigator reported the cause of the fire as unattended cooking. The fire originated from a pot of boiling cooking oil that extended to the range hood. The Fire Investigator also noted the smoke alarms in the home were expired and not working. Damage is estimated to be $25,000.
SFD would like to remind residents to test their smoke alarms monthly. For additional information about cooking safety, visit saskatoon.ca/cookingsafety.
