Apartment fire at 115 Ave O South
At approximately 8:24 Sunday evening the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 115 Ave O S.
Three fire engines, one aerial ladder truck, one heavy rescue truck and a Battalion Chief were dispatched. On arrival crews found a second floor apartment fully involved with fire and the building full of smoke. Arriving crews received several reports of people trapped in the building. One additional fire engine was dispatched.
Crews performed a quick transitional attack on the fire from outside and then entered the building to perform an aggressive interior attack on the fire. While crews were extinguishing the fire additional crews searched the building and brought one person out of a basement suite, Crews also rescued two people off a balcony. Four cats were also found and brought out of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished and all people that were in the building were accounted for. Twenty one people were displaced from their homes. One person from received minor burns. Because of the severe cold weather Two additional fire engines were dispatched to the scene to relieve crews on scene and complete salvage and overhaul operations.
A Fire Investigator was called to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Damage is estimated to be approximately $250,000.00.
