Registration is now open for Girls in Motion and for Taking to the Court – free events being hosted by the City of Saskatoon on Friday, November 12, 2021, for youth

ages 10 to 14.

Girls in Motion

A day for youth to become inspired to live a healthy, happy lifestyle and enjoy physical activities.  This year’s sessions include zumba, gymnastics, hoop dancing, self defence, ballet/jazz and yoga.
 

Taking to the Court
Friday, November 12

Cosmo Civic Centre, 3130 Laurier Drive
A day for youth to get active and have fun learning futsal and box lacrosse.

Lunch and snacks are provided at each event.  Space is limited.  Register online at leisureonline.saskatoon.ca or call or visit any Leisure Centre by Monday, November 8.

Know before you go! The following COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of staff and participants:  

• Proof of vaccination and ID for those eligible (12 and over) is required. Note: Photo ID is not required for anyone under 17 years. Acceptable ID is copy of any government issued identification such as Saskatchewan Health Card, Birth Certificate, and Passport or a Student ID.
• Masks will be mandatory for all participants inside the facility and during all activities.
• Equipment will be sanitized after every use.
• Proper food handling protocols will be followed.
• Physical distancing will be in place.

The College Drive eastbound exit ramp to McKercher Drive will be closed on Thursday, October 21 at 9:00 a.m. for roadway work. Detours will be in place guiding motorists around this work. This project is expected to take six hours to complete, barring unforeseen circumstances or weather delays.      
      
Saskatoon Transit may be affected by these detours. Transit service alerts and real-time bus information is available on third-party apps like Transit and Google Maps Transit on desktop.

On Monday, October 18, the Administration will present a decision report to the Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) detailing two options for the implementation of a utility for curbside residential garbage and the upcoming curbside residential organics program. The decision to rescind the November 19, 2018 resolution to fund both with property taxes came during the August 30, 2021 GPC meeting, where the Administration was asked to re-evaluate the funding model and present options on timing, phase-in options, and affordability options.

The two options are as follows:

• Option 1: January 2023 implementation of fixed monthly rates for both black cart garbage and curbside organics utilities.
• Option 2 (Recommendation): January 2023 implementation of fixed monthly rate for curbside organics utility and January 2024 implementation of variable rates for the black cart garbage.

This illustration provides a detailed comparison of both options, including the estimated financial impact on single-family households, condominiums, and non-residential properties.

“Funding these services through a utility is a step in the right direction, as it provides additional transparency of program costs and accountability to customers through a fair and justifiable rate.” says Angela Gardiner, General Manager, Utilities and Environment. “We have done a thorough comparison of both options and we feel that the variable aspect of Option 2 is most favourable as it increases the customer’s control over their costs and encourages lower usage of residential garbage services by providing financial incentives for waste diversion.”

Closing dates for the City’s Holiday Park and Wildwood golf courses have been revised and will close on the following dates: 
Holiday Park (back 9) – Wednesday, October 20
Wildwood (back 9) – Thursday, October 21

The courses were originally scheduled to close Sunday, October 24 but the forecasted weather requires an earlier closure to complete the operational requirements before winter.  Silverwood front and back nine, Wildwood front 9, and Holiday Park front 9 and executive 9 already closed for the season. 

Give the gift of fun! The Pro shops at Silverwood and Wildwood will be open for Club 6 Pack and gift card purchases until October 29, 2021.  Pro Shop hours are Silverwood, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Wildwood 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Holiday Park Pro Shop will be closed for in-person purchases until February, 2022. Purchases can be made by phone at 306-975-3325 year-round.
