Out of town brush fire South of Hwy. 14, East of Range Road 3074

At approximately 12:33 this afternoon the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call from a passer by reporting a large grass/brush fire near the intersection of Hwy. 14 West and Range Road 3074. One Engine company, one Brush Truck and one Tanker Truck responded to this area. Upon leaving city limits the senior officer reported heavy smoke west of the city being blow by a strong South wind gusting to 48 kph.
On arrival the Saskatoon Fire Department crews noted fire crews from neighboring communities of Asquith and Delisle where already working on scene. All three departments established a mutual aid sectoring the fire into three zones preventing the fire from entering three separate farm yards. Strong winds continued to blow heavy smoke across Hwy. 14 for several hours reducing viability.
Currently, the fire is under control with fire operations winding down. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and no estimated value has been determined.
Grass Fire North East of Saskatoon

At approximately 4:15 this afternoon, The Saskatoon Fire Department received a call reporting a large grass fire North East of Saskatoon.
One Fire Engine, two Brush Trucks and two Water Tankers were dispatched to the incident.
First arriving apparatus found a large grass fire located between two residential yards. Fire crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. Two small out buildings were destroyed by the fire and a third out building received some fire damage. The fire was contained to approximately 5 acres.
Crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and perform overhaul duties.
There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
Early Morning Fire Damages Homes

At approximately 4:45 A.M. on Friday April 12, 2019, the Saskatoon Fire Department received one 911 call reporting a house fire at 534 Wollaston Terrace. Three engines, one aerial and one heavy rescue responded to the call and found a home and attached garage fully involved with fire.
Crews quickly began a transitional attack and were notified the home had been evacuated. The lone occupant was notified of the fire by a neighbor banging on the door of his home. Fire crews had the fire under control within twenty minutes. Crews proceeded into the home to complete their search and extinguish any remaining fire. Heat from the fire also caused damages to the neighboring home by melting the exterior siding. Saskatoon Fire crews had the fire out within 1 hour.
A Fire Investigator was called and is currently on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time and damage estimates have not been determined.
There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
UPDATE: Mattress fire - 130 Avenue U South

A Fire Investigator has determined that the fire at 130 Avenue U South was accidental in nature as a result of a faulty electrical receptacle. A short in the wiring configuration subsequently resulted in the ignition of a nearby mattress. Damage has been estimated at $80,000.
Fire Investigators have since cleared the scene and the Saskatoon Fire Department has concluded its involvement in this incident.

At approximately 12:56 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a mattress on fire in an upstairs bedroom of a residential house located at 130 Avenue U South.
Three Fire Engines, one Heavy Rescue Unit, one Aerial Ladder Truck, one Fire Investigation Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response.
Upon arrival, all occupants had self-evacuated from the residence with no reported injuries or complications. Utility technicians were requested to shut off services to the house, creating a safer work environment for fire crews.
Smoke was observed exiting a second storey window as an attack group made entry into the house; a mattress located in an upper level bedroom was quickly located, removed, and extinguished. Fire crews performed searches of each level in the house, finding no remaining occupants, pets, or extension of the fire.
Fire Investigators are on scene working to determine a cause. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
Mattress fire - 130 Avenue U South

At approximately 12:56 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a mattress on fire in an upstairs bedroom of a residential house located at 130 Avenue U South.

Two vehicle collision - rescue required - Traffic Bridge
April 8, 2019 - 3:13 pm
At approximately 1:39 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a two vehicle collision on the Traffic Bridge.
One Fire Engine, one Heavy Rescue Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response. Upon arrival of the first responding fire crew, a Mini Cooper with two occupants and a Ford Escape with a lone occupant appeared to have collided head-on. It was determined that extrication would be required to remove one occupant from the Mini Cooper.
Fire crews on scene stabilized and de-energized the vehicles in preparation for extrication. Upon arrival of the Heavy Rescue Unit, fire crews performed extrication of the driver from the Mini Cooper. The extrication was completed in less than ten minutes and the driver was then transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.
The Saskatoon Fire Department has since cleared this incident and the scene has been left with the Saskatoon Police Service.
Structure fire - 437 Avenue C South

At approximately 4:36 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a possible house on fire at 437 Avenue C South.
Three Fire Engines, one Aerial Ladder Truck, one Heavy Rescue Unit, one Fire Investigation Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response. Fire crews arrived on scene in less than three minutes.
Upon arrival, smoke was observed visibly filling the interior of the house and exiting through the roof. Fire crews immediately initiated an offensive attack and entered the house within minutes of arrival. Utilities to the house were not in service and therefore did not identify as a hazard to fire crews working on scene. A fire on the interior of the house was quickly found and extinguished, and ventilation was conducted to clear the house of remaining smoke and carbon monoxide. Searches were completed on each level, with no occupants or pets being found inside.
It was determined that the fire may have extended into the wall and floor of the house; fire crews began opening up the areas suspected of extension, allowing them to find, control, and contain any extension of the fire that had occurred.
A Fire Investigator is working on scene, but has not yet identified a cause or provided a damage estimate.
There were no injuries to civilian or fire personnel reported as a result of this incident.
House fire on Ave C South

Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting smoke from a home on the 400 block Ave C South. Dispatched to the scene are 3 Engines, 1 ladder, 1 Rescue and the Battalion Chief. First arriving officer observed smoke coming from the home. Fire crews are currently preparing to enter the home to fight the fire.

UPDATE: Dual house fires on Saguenay Drive

Fire Investigators have concluded that a fire damaging two homes in the 100 block of Saguenay Drive was caused by hot ashes from a fire pit that had been incorrectly disposed of in a garbage dumpster located between the two houses. Damage has been estimated at $400,000.00 to the south house, as well as an additional $100,000.00 to the neighbouring house.
The Saskatoon Fire Department has now concluded its involvement in this incident.

The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 2:45 pm on Sunday afternoon reporting an attached garage fire. Dispatched to the scene were 3 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Rescue and a Battalion Chief. The first arriving fire officer observed fire between two homes and smoke venting to the eaves of each; while directing fire crews to attack the fire, the call for a Fire Investigator was also made. The fire was quickly knocked down however the extension of fire into the attic proved to be a challenge. A second alarm was called to bring additional resources to the scene to assist with extinguishment.
Fire crews remain on scene as does the fire investigator.
Cause of the fire and damage estimate are not available at this time.
Dual house fires on Saguenay Drive

The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 2:45 pm on Sunday afternoon reporting an attached garage fire. Dispatched to the scene were 3 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Rescue and a Battalion Chief. The first arriving fire officer observed fire between two homes and smoke venting to the eaves of each. While directing fire crews to attack the fire also called for a fire investigator. The fire was quickly knocked down however the extension of fire into the attic proved to be a challenge. A second alarm was called to bring additional resources to the scene to assist with extinguishment.
Fire crews remain on scene as does the fire investigator.
Cause of the fire and damage estimate are not available at this time.
