Water rescue on South Saskatchewan River
The Saskatoon Fire Department received a call from RCMP at 1:47 pm November 16, 2020 to assist with a person in the South Saskatchewan River located south of the city. A rescue boat with surface water technicians was launched and proceeded up river.
Arriving on scene, the boat crew located a female on an ice shelf on the river. Firefighter/paramedics assessed the patient and determined it was not advisable to move the patient up the steep river bank. The patient was loaded into the rescue boat and transported to the SFD boat launch to a waiting ambulance.
It was reported the person entered the river after a pet dog had gone in the water. The dog eventually made its way to shore.
The Saskatoon Fire Department warns everyone to not go into the river and to stay of the ice.
