Update: Commercial fire – 2600 block of Jasper Avenue
At 11:27 a.m. the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) received reports of a commercial building on fire on the 2600 block of Jasper Avenue. SFD crews responded and observed heavy smoke coming from the back of a warehouse. All occupants were safely evacuated.
Fire crews were assigned tactical duties and began to extinguish the fire. Due to the combination of the size of the fire, weather conditions and close proximity to other large structures, a second alarm was called at 11:46 a.m. Another two engines, one ladder truck and Command 9 were dispatched to assist the four fire engines on site.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one corner of the roof. As the incident progressed, the roof was severely compromised, but remained intact.
After more than three hours of response, SFD declared the fire under control. Fire crews remain on site to monitor hot spots and ensure the fire is completely extinguished.
A fire investigator is on scene to conduct an examination to identify the cause, origin and damage estimate.
