Structure fire - 2602 Taylor Street East
At approximately 1:00 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a multi-unit housing facility located at 2602 Taylor Street East.
Three fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were immediately dispatched for response. Upon arrival, fire crews observed heavy black smoke exiting the building in the area of two units. Fire crews immediately made entry to the unit believed to be the source, quickly locating, attacking, and extinguishing a fire in the laundry room; there was no further extension of the fire found.
Occupants of the building had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of the first responding fire engine and firefighters performing searches of the area did not locate any remaining occupants or pets inside.
Fire crews have established ventilation and are using electric fans to clear the structure of remaining smoke and carbon monoxide.
A fire investigator is on scene working to confirm a cause. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
There were no injuries reported as a result of this fire.
