Multi-Unit Residential Structure Fire - 555 12th Street East
At approximately 12:26 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a confirmed multi-unit residential structure fire at 555 12th Street East with the possibility of one individual trapped on the roof.
Three fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were dispatched for immediate response.
While traveling across the Broadway Bridge, fire crews noted visible smoke and flames showing from the roof of the multi-unit residential complex across the river; the movements of one individual could also be observed on the roof of the structure.
Upon arrival of the first responding fire engine, it was confirmed that one individual who had been conducting maintenance work on the roof was in need of assistance to a safer location; however, they were not trapped as originally reported. The maintenance worker used a bucket of water to begin containing the fire, with fire crews initiating an immediate attack on the fire upon assisting the maintenance worker to safety. Firefighters conducted searches of each suite in the complex, finding no remaining occupants, pets, or extension of the fire inside.
The maintenance worker was medically assessed by firefighter-paramedics and was released on scene without requiring further treatment.
A fire investigator has responded to the scene and is working to identify a cause. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
