Apartment fire on Matheson Drive
The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 12:41 pm, November 16, 2020 reporting smoke coming from building on the 1000 block of Matheson Drive. Dispatched to the scene were four engines, a ladder, a fire investigator, and a battalion chief. First arriving firefighters reported an apartment block with heavy smoke coming from a ground level window.
Fire crews entered the building and proceeded to a lower level suite where they encountered the fire. Advanced hand lines were used to suppress, then extinguish the fire. While in the suite, firefighters discovered and rescued a cat. After an initial assessment, determined the cat suffered no ill effects from the fire.
After examining the scene, the fire investigator determined the fire was caused by unattended burning of incense. Damage caused by this fire is estimated to be $100,000.00.
