What We Are Asking

The City of Saskatoon (City) is planning to construct a new indoor Leisure Centre in the Holmwood Sector. As part of the pre-design process the City is looking for input on the types of spaces, programs and amenities that the community would like to see in the new Leisure Centre.

From Spring to Summer 2024, the community and potential user groups of the future East Side Leisure Centre are invited to provide their input on what the new Leisure Centre should include. The feedback received, along with best practice research and internal considerations, will be provided to City Council in the design and development of the site.

Community Survey - May 2024

The community was invited to provide their input on the future East Side Leisure Centre through an online survey. Just under 5,500 community members participated in the survey. Thank you to all who provided for their feedback!

Background

Why We Are Doing This Work

This project is part of the City of Saskatoon Recreation and Parks Master Plan approved by City Council in 2022. In the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, City Council is prioritizing the development of recreation, parks, cultural amenities and programs to enable residents and visitors to be healthy, active, connected to nature and to have fun in all four seasons. As Saskatoon grows, it is essential that the City continue to offer residents and visitors a variety of recreation, culture and leisure opportunities.

How Will This Project Be Funded?

The project will be funded jointly through the City's capital budgeting process and funding support from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

What Could the New Leisure Centre Include?

The new East Side Leisure Centre will provide nearly 80,000 residents of this east end community with more opportunities to come together, stay active, and make long-lasting memories. The City is working on a partnership with the Saskatoon YMCA in the development and operation of this new facility. The facility will be fully accessible with proposed features including:

a pool for lane swimming, lessons and leisure activities
a gymnasium space
fitness and weight rooms
multipurpose and childminding spaces
accessible locker, changing and washroom spaces.

Where Will the New Leisure Centre Be Located?

The proposed East Side Leisure Centre is intended to meet the growing demand for recreation amenities and programs on the Saskatoon’s east side. The Holmwood Sector is located east of Rosewood, Briarwood, College Park East, Arbor Creek, Willowgrove and Evergreen neighbourhoods and when completed will include six neighbourhoods and approximately 80,000 people within its boundaries.
