What is the Project About?

The City of Saskatoon is reviewing Victoria Avenue (from Taylor Street to Ruth Street) for the assessment and design of walking and cycling facilities. The outcome of this project is to have a functional design for walking and cycling facilities and does not include construction.

The recommended design will be presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation and City Council in 2025.

Why Are We Doing This Work?

Saskatoon’s Active Transportation Plan (AT Plan) was established to increase transportation options within the city by improving the accessibility, comfort, convenience and safety of walking and cycling. The AT Plan identified Victoria Avenue as a future all ages and abilities cycling route to work towards creating a complete and connected bicycle network throughout Saskatoon.

To better understand the challenges and opportunities with this design project, the City is engaging with property owners, members of the public and community groups.

How does this affect the sidewalk construction this summer?

Sidewalks are currently being constructed on Victoria Avenue from Ruth Street to Elm Street. This work is part of The City of Saskatoon Active Transportation Plan - Sidewalk Expansion Project that is helping to eliminate gaps in the sidewalk network. The project includes the construction of concrete sidewalks on blocks that were previously missing them on Victoria Avenue and other streets in Saskatoon. It does not include any walking or cycling improvements related to the Connecting Victoria Avenue planning study.
