What is the Project About?

The City of Saskatoon is reviewing Victoria Avenue (from Taylor Street to Ruth Street) for the assessment and design of walking and cycling facilities. The outcome of this project is to have a finalized design plan for walking and cycling facilities and does not include construction.

In the first round of engagement (July 2024), we heard from property owners, members of the public and community groups. Your feedback in addition to other considerations (e.g. technical constraints, costs and design best practices) were used to develop design alternatives and create a proposed design plan.

The final design plan will be presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation and City Council in Spring 2025.

Why Are We Doing This Work?

Saskatoon’s Active Transportation Plan (AT Plan) was established to increase transportation options within the city by improving the accessibility, comfort, convenience and safety of walking and cycling. The AT Plan identified Victoria Avenue as a future all ages and abilities cycling route to work towards creating a complete and connected bicycle network throughout Saskatoon.

To better understand the challenges and opportunities with this design project, the City is engaging with property owners, members of the public and community groups.

Victoria Avenue Bikeway – 8^th Street to Taylor Street

City Council approved street level protected bike lanes for Victoria Avenue from 8th Street to Taylor Street on April 26, 2021. The approved design will narrow the centre median to allow for on-street parking to be maintained. There is currently no funding for construction of the project.
