Adilman Drive is a major collector roadway that connects to Wanuskewin Road within the Silverwood Heights neighbourhood.
Background
The City of Saskatoon undertook a Neighbourhood Traffic Review (NTR) in Silverwood Heights in 2017. The comprehensive review, which included gathering input from area residents and traffic analysis, resulted in a traffic improvement plan that was presented to City Council on May 28, 2018. This plan, as well as more information about the NTR process, is available at saskatoon.ca/NTR.
The final plan included several measures to calm traffic within the Silverwood Heights neighbourhood, such as median islands and curb extensions.
Following the implementation of the traffic calming measures identified in the traffic plan, the City observed that the measures on Adilman Drive were proving ineffective at reducing speeding. In May 2023, the City hosted a public drop-in session to present a traffic plan with additional traffic calming measures for Adilman Drive and Goerzen Street. After receiving feedback on the traffic plan, the City revised the traffic plan and sent out a flyer to determine the level of community support.
Update
In February 2024, the City sent out a survey to gauge community support for the revised traffic calming plan for Adilman Drive. A minimum of 60 percent support from surveyed households was required to advance the traffic calming measures to the next phase of the process.
Based on the results of the survey, most of the proposed traffic calming measures will not be installed because the responses received did not meet the 60 percent support required for the traffic calming measures to proceed.
The temporary curb extensions installed at Spencer Crescent / Rowles Road to improve pedestrian safety will be installed permanently as funding allows. The temporary median island installed at Russell Road to improved stop compliance will be installed permanently as funding allows. The rest of the existing temporary measures will be removed.
Temporary curb extensions will be installed at Broadbent Avenue to improve pedestrian safety.
Feedback
Surveys were distributed to 515 households. A total of 130 responses were received. The survey results for each proposed traffic calming measure are summarized below.
