2024 Civic Election: how the order of candidate names on the ballot will be determined
Dedicated planning for the 2024 Civic Election to be held November 13, 2024, continues. This fall, eligible voters will cast their ballot for Saskatoon’s local government leadership for the next four-year term: mayor, city councillors and school board trustees for the Public and Catholic School Boards.
Ever wonder how the order of candidate names is determined on a ballot when there are several candidates running for one office or in the same ward?
For the 2024 Civic Election, Elections Saskatoon, in accordance with Bylaw No. 8191, The Election Bylaw, 2012, subsection 7.1(3), for where there are (5) five or more candidates (for a certain office), will arrange the names of candidates on a ballot randomly in accordance with subsection 91 (2) of The Local Government Election Act. If there are fewer than five candidates for a certain office, then the names will be arranged alphabetically.
Save the date! All candidates, members of the voting public and media are invited to observe the random ballot name draw to be held in Council Chamber at City Hall on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The event will start at 5 p.m.
If, after the draw, a candidate withdraws their nomination by 4 p.m. on October 10, 2024, their name will be removed. If the withdrawal of nomination causes there to be fewer than five candidates, their names will be listed on the ballot in alphabetical order.
Check the Candidate List, updated daily until October 10, 2024, 4 p.m.
