Current Winter Road Activities

Monitoring high traffic roads and applying de-icing material as required, beginning with Circle Drive and freeways.
Plowing Circle Drive and other expressways;
Grading snow from Priority 2 and 3 streets, including the main streets in a neighbourhood, Saskatoon Transit routes and school zones.
Crews are monitoring streets for icy conditions 24 hours a day and applying pre-wet salt/sand combination (used to soften ice and improve traction in more severe cold temperatures).
Grading snow from protected bike lanes.
Clearing snow from sidewalks adjacent to City facilities, multi-use pathways and cycle tracks
Clearing severe drifting in outlying parts of the city and along back lanes

Even with the use of de-icing material, extra moisture may cause slippery conditions during peak driving times, especially on bridges where ice particles may be in the air above the river.
Be aware of changing weather that can affect road and sidewalk conditions.
Watch for blue and amber flashing lights on snow maintenance equipment. If you encounter equipment on the road, slow down, remain at least 15 meters (2.5 car lengths) behind, and be ready to stop.
Clear your business sidewalks within 24 hours and residential sidewalks within 48 hours.
