FAQ - Questions about the Appointment Process?
Who can apply?
As per City Council Policy No. C01-003 Appointments to Civic Boards, Commissions, Authorities, and Committees, applicants must reside within the boundaries of the City of Saskatoon, with the exception of applicants to the Controlled Corporations.
Employees of the City of Saskatoon are not eligible for public appointment.
How do I apply?
To apply, go to our BCC page and click on your board of interest to find its application form or click on the Vacancies Tab. Complete the online application form, attach a resumé and provide two letters of reference. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Can I apply for more than one Board or Committee?
Yes. You must complete a separate application for each one.
How many actual vacancies are there?
Existing members are eligible for reappointment to a maximum of six years; however, appointments are not automatic. The number of actual vacancies may be minimal; however, we encourage you to submit an application. Vacancies arise throughout the year, and your application will be considered in those cases.
How are appointments made?
- Applications are either provided to the City Agency Recruitment and Evaluation Committee (CARE) or forwarded to the particular Controlled Corporation or Statutory Board applied for, whichever is applicable, and reviewed by those bodies.
- Recommendations from those bodies are then placed on an upcoming In Camera meeting of the Governance & Priorities Committee (GPC). Please view the meeting calendar here.
- The Governance & Priorities Committee will make recommendations to City Council for appointments.
- This process can take up to two months so please be patient.
- Most appointments are effective as of January 1 unless otherwise noted.
How do I find out if I am appointed?
You will receive formal notification of your appointment from the City Clerk's Office indicating the term and any other pertinent information. Unsuccessful applicants are also notified following completion of the appointment process.
Will I get paid to sit on a Committee?
Most of the positions are voluntary with the exception of the Board of Revision, Development Appeals Board, Saskatoon Appeal Board, and the Saskatoon Airport Authority.
