The City of Saskatoon offers free energy coaching to homeowners looking to learn more about energy efficiency renovations and maximize available financial incentives and rebates. Our coaches are available to conduct a virtual or in-person walkthrough of your home, suggest the most efficient upgrades for your home, and provide helpful tips on how you can reduce your day-to-day energy use.

What's an Energy Coach?
Energy Coaches are experts in home energy efficiency that are not affiliated with any contractors or vendors. An energy coach is an expert in home energy efficiency; they can provide education and guidance to residents through all stages of their home energy improvement project.
This service is available to all Saskatoon residents.
What’s included in the Energy Coaching service?
Available to all Saskatoon residents, our Energy Coaches can:
- Walk homeowners through the basics of starting a home energy improvement project.
- Educate homeowners on upgrades that can reduce energy use, including insulation, window and door replacements, air source heat pumps, solar installations, and more.
- Explain the benefits of a home energy audit and help homeowners understand the report results.
- Assist with prioritizing upgrades based on factors like cost, comfort, and energy reduction.
- Provide information on Canada Greener Homes initiatives and other financial incentives and rebates that will help you get the work done.
- Suggest habits and tips that can help reduce day-to-day energy consumption.
Why reduce energy use at home?
In 2021, Residential buildings accounted for 42 percent of Saskatoon’s greenhouse gas emissions related to energy use and almost a quarter of our overall community emissions.
Not only will you be helping reduce GHG emissions, but investing in energy efficiency upgrades and retrofits can:
- Save you money on your energy bills.
- Increase the comfort of your home.
- Increase the resale value of your home.

What does a virtual or in-person home walkthrough entail?
- Educating the homeowner on behaviours and products that can reduce energy use.
- Providing technical assistance and support
- Reviewing and explaining the results of the EnerGuide Audit reports.
- Providing expert advice to assist homeowners in determining renovations.
- Providing estimated financial payback and advising on incentive options
- Educating the homeowner on how to use the self-service online tools on the City of Saskatoon website.

How long does a home walkthrough take?
The walkthrough takes approximately 1.5 hours.
How do I schedule an appointment for a virtual or in-person home walkthrough?
You can contact the Energy Coach service by phone or email at energycoachsk@summerhill.com.
Do I need to be home for a home walkthrough?
Yes, you will need to be present during the in-home energy coaching session. If you are unable to be present for the appointment, you will need to contact the energy coach service to reschedule.
Do I need an appointment to ask an energy coach a question?
No, we encourage you to call or email us with your question(s): energycoachsk@summerhill.com.
What hours are the energy coaches available on the phone?
We are open from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CST, excluding statutory holidays.
Can Energy Coaches complete an EnerGuide Home Assessment or an energy audit on my home?
No, our Energy coaches are not certified Energy Advisors. We are here to assist you with the basics of starting a home energy improvement project, providing education on how to reduce your energy use, explaining the benefits of a home energy audit, providing information on the Canada Greener Homes initiatives and other incentives that will help you get the work done.
Is this service really free?
Yes, it’s free to all residents of Saskatoon.
I’m participating in the HELP program. Can I use this service?
Yes! All energy coaching services are available to participants in the HELP program.
I already have an EnerGuide audit done. Can I still participate?
Yes! Our team can walk you through your EnerGuide report and provide guidance on next steps based on those results.
What information should I have to make the most out of my time with an Energy Coach?
If applicable, please have your HELP application number and/or EnerGuide report ready. Otherwise, we’re available to help you with any questions you may have!
